What is it?

Sedimental is a calm, first-person game about collecting rocks. You walk real kinds of places, spot what glints, and take it home to find out what it is.

Rockhounding is the hobby of hunting for fossils, gems and minerals yourself: on gravel bars, in old quarries, at gem mines and on ploughed fields. Sedimental turns that into a day-by-day loop.

A day of collecting

  1. Gloved hands holding a sieve over a shallow creek, pebbles caught in the mesh 1

    Find

Sieve the creek, split rocks with a hammer, sweep a metal detector, or wash buckets of gravel at a gem mine's flume.

  2. A geode's label in the game: locality, condition, weight, size and value 2

    Clean and identify

Back in the garage, scrub off the mud, crack geodes and free fossils at the vise, then name each find under the lamp.

  3. The red Creekside Rock Shop with a striped awning and an open door 3

    Keep, show or sell

Fill your shelves and the field journal, stock your own rock shop, take pieces to auction, or give the best to the town museum.

True to the ground

Every place borrows its finds from a real collecting region, so what you pick up is what you could really find there: brachiopods and trilobites in the creek, agates on the river bar, sapphires in the gem mine's gravel, diamonds after rain on the field.
